Every article has three basic sections – the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. A good writer will make sure that each of these article sections is focused, well researched and clearly written from start to finish. Make sure to keep these tips in mind when working on your blog.

The Introduction

The introduction of any article is like a doorway. If the topic is interesting and the writing is engaging, the reader will be enticed to continue reading. If the topic is dull or the writing is muddled, the reader will turn away from that “doorway” and find something else to read. Step one in good article writing is to select your main idea and to present it in a way that makes your audience want to read more than just the introduction.

The Main Body

The main body of the article is where the writer presents the central idea in greater detail. As you begin to write this section of your article, ask yourself – “What is the main message I want to convey to my readers?” Step two in good article writing is to focus on this key concept in an interesting way throughout the body of the story.

These article writing tips will help make the body of your article more effective:

  • Make an outline – An outline will help you to organize your ideas and to maintain your focus on the central topic. It also will help you to remember to include your most essential points.

  • Organize your article – Article writing is more successful when the author avoids long paragraphs and awkward sentences that turn off readers. Instead, use shorter paragraphs and simple sentences that are easier for the reader to digest. Each paragraph also should group together similar ideas and avoid mixing unrelated topics.

  • Research your topic – Using facts and figures to back up your opinions will make your article writing much more persuasive. Do your homework and include your findings in your article.

  • Use sub-headings and bullet points – These devices allow the writer to feature certain ideas and to make them easier for readers to understand. A long, unbroken block of words on a page can seem overwhelming to readers. Sub-headings and bullet points make a story appear more attractive to the eye.

  • Stick to your topic – If your title and introduction promise to cover a certain topic, it is the writer’s job to deliver on that promise. So an article with a “how to” title should provide step-by-step instructions about how to do something. Excellent article writing always satisfies or exceeds a reader’s expectations.

  • Remember keywords – If you write for the internet, keywords can allow search engines to retrieve your article more readily for readers. A keyword describes the main ideas in your article. Ideally, your article body should have a keyword in the first paragraph, in the last paragraph, and somewhere in between. The number of keywords depends on the length of your article. The typical rule is one keyword for every 100 words.

The Conclusion

Step three in good article writing is to develop an appealing conclusion that summarizes the body of the story. In some cases, a conclusion may invite the readers to take action or may suggest further reading. Any conclusion must be clearly focused on the key topic discussed throughout the article.

By following these basics, you will be able to improve your article writing and enhance the body of any story. If your article is effective, you will reach more readers and gain their trust and confidence. And with more readers, you’ll have the most important foundation for your business – your customers.
