How will Facebook deal with reciprocal liking?

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Facebook Like ExchangeTom here at the office shared a conversation on LinkedIn with me where the whole purpose was to share your Facebook fan page and get likes in exchange for likes. To a small business owner trying to up the likes on their page this may not seem like a bad idea, it may even seems like a great one. However though it may work right now it’s something Facebook will have to address if Likes are to have any long term value. How can you trust Likes as an indicator of value when you know they are so easily manipulated. There were over 5,000 posts in this conversation and one person mentioned getting over 200 Likes for exchange. Even if this person had 1,000 likes 20% would be BS Likes, move likely this person now has 300 Likes, 200 of which are BS. 1. Easy to Employ
Your Twitter account, Facebook page and LinkedIn account can all be launched right now and you can build an interesting and informative blog in a matter of days.

Little to no money is required to start blogging and using social media marketing platforms. In fact, these are some of the most low-cost methods that businesses can use to reach their targeted audiences.

3. Immediate Interaction
You can get immediate feedback from your market through both social media marketing and blogs. Our blog provides us with a variety of feedback through the comments that people leave. Other social media marketing platforms that we use such as LinkedIn and Facebook enable consumers to leave reviews and comments for us as well.

4. It’s All In The Search Engines
Surveys have shown that more than 90% of consumers use search engines in the initial stages of the purchasing process. Using social media and blogs ensures that prospective customers will be able to find your site when searching.

5. Inbound Marketing
If you happen to be one of our blog readers, then you are well aware of how much we approve of inbound marketing at ACU Web. Outbound marketing is essentially direct mail, telemarketing and impersonal email blasts (far different from the nurturing nature of this email), print and TV ads. In essence, outbound marketing is basically everything that the average consumer tends to block out. The best tools for inbound marketing are blogs and social media.

6. All The Benefits Of Being The First To Move In Social Media Marketing
There are definite benefits to being the first to move when using social media marketing and blogs as part of your inbound marketing strategies. Being the first to jump into the conversation will enable you to beat your competitors to the punch. The future of QR codes?

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

QR Code manWhen I first discovered Quick Response codes, or QR codes, I immediately thought they were a cool way to let people quickly and easily access websites and information without having to have a web address. Many companies, such as Starbucks, are now using Quick Response codes in advertising through television commercials, as well as on their products. In fact, almost everywhere you go, Quick Response codes are popping up. Even the local newspaper and the Yellow Pages have discussed using Quick Response codes for print advertising.

After considering the popularity of Quick Response codes, as well as their ease of use, I began to consider another possible use for them that did not involve traditional business marketing; allowing people to use Quick Response codes to communicate with one another. Quick Response codes could be used to share ideas and information, and expand on the concepts of social networking. By people having the ability to have their own personal Quick Response codes that could change and be updated with new information, Quick Response codes could soon become a completely new means of communication.
